The 12th annual Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Half Marathon took place last Friday, February 9 with impressive performances by athletes on Kenya’s men’s and women’s teams, with a podium sweep by Kenya in the women’s race. Fancy Chemutai came in first with a time of 1:04:52–just one second shy of the world record that Kenyan Joyciline Jepkosgei set for the half marathon last year. Jepkosgei also ran the RAK, placing fifth in 1:06:46 behind second-place finisher Mary Keitany (1:04:55), third-place finisher Caroline Kipkirui (1:05:07) and fourth-place finisher Joan Chelimo Melly of Kenya (1:05:37). In the men’s race, Bedan Karoki of Kenya broke the tape in 58:42, followed shortly by Jemal Yimer of Ethiopia (59:00) and Alex Kibet of Kenya (59:06).
