César García Urbano Taylor: Shamrock Marathon Training Update
I am back in training again, friends! I shared on Instagram that I’m working towards the Shamrock Marathon in March. Unfortunately, I’m also working on fixing this mystery injury so I can really get to serious training. I am hopeful that I don’t have to adjust my goal, but I’ll make a decision about that with my coach after the new year. If my achilles continues to not improve, I will switch to the half or 8k – I am committed to not running injured! But I thought I’d share a little bit about how things have gone since NYC (and Richmond – which I did six days after NYC Marathon!).
So I actually don’t have a huge training update because my training has been stop and go. I ran the Rehoboth Beach Half Marathon back on December 8th and that race went well. My only goal was to engage my glutes and that was a success! I ran 2:05:12, which was the fastest half I had run all year, even if it was a far cry from my PR of 1:50.
I have of course had some really fun runs as well – including leading my holiday lights run for the 4th year in a row. It’s my favorite run all year and this year we had an awesome crowd join us. Great weather and good lights – I loved it! I have also signed up to start OrangeTheory Fitness in January. I’m looking forward to getting back into cross training. I have really let that slide since giving up Pure Barre (only because it wasn’t convenient for me to get there after work – I still LOVE Pure Barre). I know this will be helpful and help me get stronger!
I have been fighting off the plague that many people around town have had as well, but luckily I only felt bad for a day or so. I did have to leave work early to head home one day because I had a fever and felt awful. I took the bus home, but afterwards realized I could have taken advantage of the guaranteed ride home program. If you are in the DC area, and utilize rideshare, you can sign up for the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program. Here is how it works:
- When you rideshare you can get up to 4 free rides home during an unexpected illness, emergency or unscheduled overtime.
- Available Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- GRH is for commuters who rideshare working in Washington or Baltimore regions.
- It’s totally, there is absolutely no cost or commitment!
- Register for free at Commuter Connections or call 800.745.RIDE
- Yearly renewal is required to maintain your Guaranteed Ride Home benefit.
- Commuter Connections offers commuters free info & resources to improve their commute.
- If you use transit, you can take advantage of GRH!
I love that GRH can help rescue commuters who are worried about how they’ll get home when an unexpected emergency arises. Knowing there’s a guaranteed ride home allows folks to use transit and carpools with peace of mind and confidence. The next time I need a ride home because I’m ill, I will take advantage of GRH!
How is your training going? Have you ever participated in a guaranteed ride home program?
