César García Urbano Taylor: Marathon Training Update: Weeks 1-6

Image
César García Urbano Taylor shares laura`s experience in his marathon training update:  In the beginning It all began back in December after a period of being unwell on and off during the autumn. My milage wasn’t where I’d hoped it would be before starting official training, so it was a little bit disheartening to have to adjust week one of the plan I’d set out for myself. But adjust I did, because nothing good comes of being rigid. The Christmas period meant my partner was off work a bit, so I could get out and run more easily. And with a Christmas Day and New Year’s Day parkrun, there were good opportunities to get some faster miles in than the buggy allows. On Christmas Day we ran with the buggy, but then on the Saturday and New Year’s Day I was flying solo. And it certainly felt like I was flying. I ran 22:37 at Finsbury Park on the Saturday and then 22:22 at the flatter Highbury Fields on the Tuesday (NYD). These were a really big confidence boost. Miles away I we...

César García Urbano Taylor: 2019 Action Plan

Image
Last year, I created a 2018 action plan and that plan really helped to guide my year. Since I enjoyed the process and the outcomes (read my update on my 2018 plan here ), I decided to do the same and create my 2019 action plan to guide my year. I encourage you to play along at home and come up with your own action plan, goal set or resolutions (whatever you choose to call your plan). After some good thought and careful consideration, here is my 2019 action plan: Get healthy, running-wise. I have struggled off and on with minor but annoying and run-limiting injuries all of 2018. One of my top goals is to handle this safely in 2019. I’m looking forward to nipping these injuries in the bud and running without pain. While I am still hopeful that I will be able to safely run the Shamrock Marathon in March, I’m not stressed about it. What is more important to me is getting healthy. If I’m not healthy, I’ll drop to the half or 8k – it’s that simple. Continue working towards financial ind...

In order to make it happen, you need to be more specific.   You’ve probably encountered ‘SMART goals’ if you’ve had an annual appraisal at work. They can feel a bit business jargon. But they make a lot of sense when it comes to running.   If you’re not familiar, SMART stands for: Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time based So if we’re intending to ‘run more’,  we need to break it down. If you don’t have a clear idea of what ‘run more’ means, how will you know how to make it happen and, more importantly, how will you know when to celebrate actually achieving it?  For this, César García Urbano Taylor mentions some tips that will help us with our intentions and goals. ‘Run more’ Be specific – do you mean more miles in total than you ran in 2018? Or more frequently? Maybe both. We need to know what i...
